Your landline number matters. Customers, suppliers, family and friends have had it for years, and it is printed on everything. If you are giving up the phone line, moving away from a desk, or simply want to take calls wherever you are, you do not have to give up the number.
Digital Numbers can take your existing landline number, a process called porting, and make it ring in the Digital Numbers app on your mobile. Callers dial exactly the same number as before. You answer it on the phone in your pocket.
Which numbers can be moved
You can port UK geographic numbers: numbers starting 01 or 02, such as 01482 or 020. The number needs to be live with your current provider, and you need to be the account holder, or have their permission, to move it.
How to move your landline number to your mobile
- Start your Digital Numbers signup and choose to keep your existing number. Tell us the number, who your current provider is, your account number with them and the postcode where the line is installed.
- We arrange the move with your current provider. Keep your existing line in place while this happens: do not cancel it yourself, as cancelling first can lose the number.
- Switch-over day. A port usually takes around 10 working days. On the day, calls to your number start arriving in the Digital Numbers app instead of on the old line.
- Cancel anything you no longer need. Once the number has moved, your old provider's service for that number ends. Check with them whether you have other services, such as broadband, that you want to keep.
What it costs
There is a one-off porting fee of £14.99 to move your number, then the normal Digital Numbers price of £7.99 a month, or £79.99 a year if you pay annually. That includes the app, call forwarding, voicemail and working hours, with no contract and no line rental.
What you get once your number has moved
- Calls on your mobile through the Digital Numbers app on iOS or Android, wherever you are.
- Call out with your landline number, so people still see the number they know.
- Call forwarding to any phone, which you can change at any time.
- Working hours and voicemail, so your number goes quiet when you do.
- WhatsApp Business ready: run WhatsApp Business on your landline number too. See WhatsApp Business numbers.
If your line is being moved off the old copper network, read our guide to the UK landline switch-off. Not sure you need your old number? You can also choose a new virtual landline with any area code we have.

Can I transfer my landline number to my mobile?
Yes. Port your 01 or 02 number to Digital Numbers and it rings in our app on your mobile. Callers dial the same number as before.
How long does it take to port a landline number?
Usually around 10 working days from when we receive your request. Your existing line keeps working until the switch-over.
Will I lose my number if I cancel my landline?
You can do, which is why you should not cancel the line yourself before the number has moved. Start the port first, and the number moves across before the old service ends.

Not at the moment. Digital Numbers can port UK geographic numbers starting 01 or 02.
How much does it cost to port my landline number?
